San Diego Concert Venues
Petco Park hosts San Diego's biggest concerts — the stadium tours that used to skip the city entirely. Gallagher Square (the former Park at the Park) is the grass berm beyond center field, and it's both the cheapest ticket in the building and a genuinely good hang if you don't need to see facial expressions.

Quick answer: Field seats are best for sound but expensive. Gallagher Square lawn is the value play at roughly a third of the price — bring a blanket, arrive early for a spot near the front of the berm. Clear bag policy is enforced. Take the trolley; downtown parking runs $30–$60 on concert nights.

Petco's Tailgate Park and the Padres Parkade run $30–$60 for concerts and sell out in advance. Cheaper: park north of Broadway or in a Cortez Hill garage and walk 12–15 minutes. Cheapest and fastest: don't drive. Concert-night traffic out of East Village takes 35+ minutes to clear.

Transit & rideshare
The MTS Green and Orange lines stop at the Gaslamp Quarter and 12th & Imperial stations — both a 5-minute walk. The trolley adds extra service on major concert nights, and it's the single best way to get in and out.
Lower infield (sections 108–113) — best combination of sound and sightline for an end-stage show.
Field GA if you want the actual concert experience and don't mind standing for four hours.
Gallagher Square lawn — the value pick. Sit near the top of the berm for a full stage view over the crowd.
Avoid outfield sections behind the stage; they're often sold as obstructed and the sound arrives late.
Bag policy
Clear bag policy, same as Padres games: clear plastic bags up to 12"x6"x12", or a small clutch up to 5"x8". No backpacks. Sealed water bottles up to 20oz are usually allowed, but the policy tightens for some tours — check the specific event page.
Food & drink inside
Full ballpark concessions run for concerts, including the Padres food halls. Prices are stadium-standard: $14–$18 beers, $16–$22 food. Hodad's, Seaside Market, and the carne asada fries stands are the ones worth the line.

Gates for concerts open earlier than Padres games — usually 2.5 hours before the headliner. Gallagher Square lawn spots go fast.

Sound in a ballpark is always better on the infield than the outfield. If you're deciding between cheap outfield seats and Gallagher Square, take Gallagher Square.
It gets cold after sunset even in July. The marine layer rolls into East Village and the concrete holds it. Bring a layer.
Leaving: walk 5 minutes to the 12th & Imperial trolley or 10 minutes north before ordering rideshare. The pickup zone is a 30-minute wait.
