How the San Diego trip planner works

Most trip planners hand you the same five attractions no matter when you visit. This one starts with your actual dates. When you submit the wizard, we pull the events that are confirmed for those days — concerts, festivals, farmers markets, ballgames, museum nights, food events — and build the days around whatever is genuinely worth showing up for. Everything else in the plan comes from our own ranked guides to beaches, neighborhoods, restaurants, and hikes, so each stop links back to a real write-up you can read before you commit.

The engine is deterministic, not a chatbot. It scores each candidate stop on distance from your home neighborhood, time of day, your stated interests, how well it pairs with the stop before it, and whether the day already has enough driving in it. That means the same inputs give you the same plan, nothing is invented, and every restaurant, venue, and trail named in your itinerary exists.

    What you get

    • A day-by-day schedule broken into morning, midday, afternoon, and evening blocks, with suggested start times and travel-aware ordering so you are not crossing the county twice in one day.
    • Real events on your dates, pulled from our event database and filtered to remove duplicates, expired listings, and venue calendar noise.
    • Food built into the day — breakfast, lunch, and dinner picks near where you will already be, not across town.
    • Open blocks with notes instead of filler. If a slot is better left flexible — beach time, a nap, a long lunch — we say so.
    • A shareable link and a printable page so you can send the plan to whoever you are traveling with.

    Tips for a better plan

Pick your home neighborhood honestly. Staying in Carlsbad and planning a Gaslamp-heavy trip means an hour of driving each way; the planner will weight coastal North County stops instead if you tell it where you are actually sleeping. If you do not have a car, say so — the plan shifts toward the trolley corridor, Balboa Park, downtown, Coronado by ferry, and walkable beach towns.

Choose two or three interests rather than all of them. A trip that says "beaches, food, and nightlife" produces a much sharper itinerary than one that asks for everything. Finally, regenerate the plan a couple of times — the engine will surface different second-tier picks each pass, which is a fast way to see the alternatives before you lock in your days.

    Common questions

    Is it free?

Yes. No account, no email required, no paywall on any part of the plan.

How far ahead can I plan?

Event coverage is strongest inside about 90 days. Beyond that the planner still builds a full itinerary from places and seasonal patterns, and it tells you when event coverage for your dates is thin so you know to check back closer to the trip.

    Can I change the plan?

Regenerate for a fresh set of picks, or start over to change dates, pace, or interests. Every stop links to its full guide, so swapping one out by hand is easy.

How many days should I spend in San Diego?

Three full days covers the icons, one beach day, and one day trip. Five days lets you add North County, Julian or Temecula, and a slower pace. Under two days, stay downtown and coastal and skip the long drives.
