The Observatory is San Diego's best mid-size room — a restored 1929 movie palace with a sloped floor, a real balcony, and a sound system that punches well above the capacity. If a band is too big for The Casbah and too small for Gallagher Square, they play here.

Quick answer: Doors are usually 7pm for an 8pm show. Park in the North Park Parking Garage on 29th & University ($5–$10) — it's half a block away. Best sound is dead center about 30 feet back; best sightlines are front-row balcony (age 21+ balcony bar). Small bags only, no backpacks.

The North Park Parking Garage at 3829 29th St is the move — six levels, half a block from the door, and it almost never fills before doors. Street parking on the numbered avenues south of University is free after 6pm but expect a 4–8 block walk on a sold-out night. Do not park in the Vons or CVS lots; both tow aggressively during shows.

Transit & rideshare
MTS Route 7 runs along University Ave and drops you at the door; the 2 and 10 are a few blocks away. Rideshare surge after a sold-out show is brutal on University — walk two blocks south to Lincoln Ave and order from there to cut the price roughly in half.
Center floor, 25–35 feet back — the sweet spot where the mains converge and you're not eating the subwoofer.
Front row of the balcony — the single best seat in the building. Balcony is 21+ and first-come once doors open, so arrive at doors if you want it.
House-left along the bar rail — good sightlines, easy drink access, and you can actually hear your friends between songs.
Avoid the very back of the floor under the balcony overhang; the high end gets swallowed there.
Bag policy
Small purses and clutches under roughly 12"x12" only. No backpacks, no professional cameras with detachable lenses, no outside food or drink. There is no bag check, so anything oversized means a walk back to your car.

Two bars: the main floor bar house-left and the balcony bar upstairs (21+). Drinks run $12–$16 for cocktails, $9–$11 for beer. Cards only — no cash. There's no real food, so eat before you come.

The balcony opens at doors and fills within 20 minutes on a sold-out night. If you want to sit, be in the first 100 people in line.
The floor is sloped, which means shorter people actually have a shot at seeing. Standing 20 feet back beats squeezing to the rail.
Merch table is in the lobby and the line is shortest during the opener's last two songs.
