    How locals use these cams

Beating the marine layer. Compare La Jolla with the harbor before committing to a beach day. A sunny inland forecast does not always mean clear conditions at the coast.

Reading the beach. Beach and boardwalk cameras provide a quick visual check for wind, fog, surf texture, and general activity. They cannot confirm water quality or safety.

Surf checking without the drive. Use a pier cam alongside our surf report. A clean wave with a longer period can feel very different from a similarly sized, wind-chopped swell.

    Frequently asked questions

Are there live webcams of San Diego beaches?

Yes. This directory links to public feeds from Scripps, La Jolla by the Sea, The Marine Room, La Jolla Shores Hotel, Surfline, EarthCam, the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, and Torrey Pines Gliderport. Each camera links to the organization that operates or publishes the feed.

What is the best San Diego webcam for checking the surf?

Use the camera closest to the break you want: Scripps Pier or one of the Surfline pier cams. Pair the view with the live numbers on our surf report so you know the swell period, not just how it looks.

Can I watch the San Diego Zoo animals live for free?

Yes. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance publishes free live cams of animals including pandas, elephants, penguins, apes, koalas, and polar bears. Availability can change by animal and time of day.

How do I know if the marine layer has burned off?

Open a coastal camera and the harbor camera at the same time. If La Jolla is still grey while the bay is sunny, the coast is likely still under the marine layer; conditions can change quickly by neighborhood.

Do webcams show how crowded the beach is?

Roughly. Boardwalk and beach views can help you spot busy conditions, but they are not a reliable crowd count and should not replace posted beach, parking, or safety information.
