Four ways to handle the night before and the car, and how to add up the total honestly.
Last updated
The B Street Pier & Cruise Ship Terminal is at 1140 N Harbor Dr and the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier is at 1000 N Harbor Dr. The Port says long-term parking is not available at the terminals and passengers may not park on the pier. It links several third-party long-term parking options; rates are set by each operator, so we do not list prices.

If you are driving to a San Diego cruise and want a hotel the night before, you have four realistic setups: a downtown hotel plus separate long-term cruise parking; a downtown hotel with your car left at home and rideshare instead; a hotel package that bundles parking for your sailing (only if the hotel confirms it in writing); or airport-area parking with a transfer. Long-term parking is not available at the cruise terminals themselves, and you cannot park on the pier. Compare the full total — room, taxes, hotel parking, cruise parking and transport both ways — not the nightly rate.

| Setup | How it works | Best for | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown hotel + separate cruise parking | Stay downtown, then drive to a long-term lot listed by the Port on sailing day | Longer sailings when you want your car waiting at the end | Paying hotel parking for the night and cruise parking for the week |
| Downtown hotel + rideshare | Leave the car at home; ride to the hotel and then to the pier | Short trips and travelers who live within rideshare range | Rideshare cost and timing on both the outbound and return days |
| Hotel park-and-cruise package | Some hotels may bundle a night with parking for the sailing | Travelers who confirm terms directly with the hotel | Packages change or are unavailable; shuttle and duration limits vary |
| Airport-area parking + transfer | Park near the airport and transfer to the terminals | Travelers flying in or out, or using an airport-area lot | Transfer timing and whether a shuttle serves the cruise terminals |
Fill in each line with the quotes for your dates. A lower nightly rate can still be the more expensive trip.
| Cost line | Where to find it | Don't forget |
|---|---|---|
| Room rate | Booking site or hotel | Your exact pre-cruise night |
| Taxes and mandatory fees | Final booking screen | Destination or resort fees, if any |
| Hotel parking (night before) | Hotel website or front desk | Valet versus self-park; in-and-out rules |
| Cruise parking (sailing length) | Operators linked from the Port's parking page | Number of days, including both end days |
| Transport to the pier | Walk, hotel shuttle if offered, or rideshare | Luggage and group size |
| Return transport on disembarkation day | Lot shuttle or rideshare | Waiting time and luggage |
Rates and availability change daily, so we link the guide rather than quote a price. Each page compares walkable, short-drive and budget options with parking and resort fees called out.
This is the most flexible setup and the easiest to price, because every piece is quoted separately.
You check into a downtown hotel the night before, then on sailing day drive to a long-term parking option and walk or shuttle to your terminal. The Port lists several operators and notes that some lots are within walking distance and others use a shuttle.
If your hotel charges for overnight parking, you pay for the car twice: one night at the hotel and the full sailing at the cruise lot. Some travelers drop luggage and passengers at the hotel, then park the car at the long-term lot the evening before; confirm that the lot allows an early start.
Several parking options linked by the Port use online reservations. Reserving fixes your space and lets you compare quotes for the exact dates.
If you live within rideshare range, leaving the car at home often removes both hotel and cruise parking from the bill. Price a round trip on both the arrival day and the disembarkation day, with your luggage and group size.
From a hotel near the Embarcadero or in Little Italy, the trip to the pier is short, and some travelers walk. Check which terminal your ship uses: most ships dock at B Street Pier, but some use Broadway Pier.
The Port says cars may be driven onto B Street Pier for drop-off with ID and a ship ticket for that date. Long-term parking on the pier is not allowed.
These can be good value for a long sailing, but they are offered hotel by hotel and change often. We do not list package deals we cannot confirm.
Ask whether a package exists for your dates, how many nights of parking it includes, where the car is kept, whether there is a shuttle to the terminal and at what times, and what happens if your ship returns late.
Before booking, get the parking duration, vehicle size limits, in-and-out rules and cancellation terms by email. Then compare the package total with Option 1.
Add the room-only rate for your night to a long-term parking quote for your sailing. If the package costs more than those parts combined, book them separately.
The Port notes that San Diego International Airport is about two miles north of the cruise terminals. The Port's parking page also lists airport-area options. This can work if you are flying one way, or if an airport-area lot offers a transfer to the terminals.
The Port's parking page notes that shuttles do not run from all locations to the cruise terminals. Confirm the shuttle route, hours and luggage policy before you book, or plan a rideshare for the transfer.
For a pre-cruise night, location relative to the Embarcadero matters more than amenities. Our cruise terminal hotels guide compares walking distances; the picks below are starting points for checking dates.
Restaurants for the night before and a short trip to the pier. Good for couples and for anyone arriving by air or train.
Waterfront hotels south along the bay, often with larger rooms or suites for families. Confirm the walk or ride to your specific terminal.
The Port notes the Santa Fe Depot train station is two blocks east of the terminals, which makes this area practical for travelers arriving by train.
Not long term. The Port of San Diego says long-term parking is not available at the cruise terminals and passengers may not park on the pier. It lists third-party long-term parking options instead.
The B Street Pier & Cruise Ship Terminal is at 1140 N Harbor Dr, and the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier is at 1000 N Harbor Dr, both on the downtown Embarcadero.
Only if the hotel confirms it in writing and the total beats a room-only rate plus separate long-term parking. Ask about parking duration, shuttle times and vehicle limits.
Often, for short sailings or if you live nearby, because you avoid both hotel and cruise parking. Price both legs with your luggage before deciding.
