Is a weekend enough time in San Diego?
For a solid highlight-reel trip, yes. Two full days covers La Jolla, Balboa Park, Coronado, Sunset Cliffs, and one great meal each night. You'll miss the East County, Anza-Borrego, and the North County beach towns, but you'll feel like you've done San Diego.
What's the best weekend to visit San Diego?
Any weekend September through mid-November is the local sweet spot: warm ocean, thin crowds, no May Gray or June Gloom. Avoid the weekend of Comic-Con (mid-July) unless you're attending — hotel prices double and downtown is jammed.
Should I fly in Friday night or Saturday morning for a weekend trip?
Friday night if you can. Late arrival means a real Saturday morning at La Jolla instead of a rushed one. SAN is 10 minutes from downtown so a 9 PM Friday landing puts you at dinner by 10.
Do I need a car for a San Diego weekend?
Yes for most itineraries. Downtown, Little Italy, and Coronado (via ferry) are walkable and Uber-friendly. But La Jolla, Sunset Cliffs, and the beaches all need a car. Rent for the whole weekend or skip the car and Uber for ~$200 total.
Where should I stay for a weekend in San Diego?

Both if you have kids — Zoo on Sunday morning, museums Saturday if it rains. Adults-only trip, skip the Zoo and pick 2 museums; it's a 4-hour commitment that eats an afternoon.

San Diego gets 10 rainy days a year, mostly Dec–Feb. If yours lands: Balboa Park museums (indoor, 17 to pick from), USS Midway, Liberty Public Market, breweries in North Park, and a Coronado Hotel del history tour. Skip the beach day and reshuffle to Sunday.
What if I extend to 3 days?

Coronado in a weekend — worth it?
Yes, but only as a half-day. Ferry over, walk Hotel del and the beach, lunch, ferry back. Don't stay overnight on a 2-day trip — you'll spend too much time on the bridge or ferry when the action is downtown and the coast.
