    Gaslamp Quarter Parking

Use a garage for a fixed destination; use the Trolley when a Padres game or major convention changes the downtown grid.

    Last updated

    Quick answer

For a typical Gaslamp visit, Park it on Market and the 6th & K Parkade are central, official district-listed garage choices. Street meters can work for short visits, but the posted hours, rate and time limit on the individual space control. For a Padres game, major convention or busy nightlife period, reserve a garage before driving or take the Trolley to Gaslamp Quarter or 12th & Imperial. Event pricing and road controls change, so compare the live rate rather than relying on a fixed dollar estimate.

    · Local knowledge, kept current

    Parking, from experience
Street meters downtown are a losing game on event nights. The garages a couple of blocks off Fifth Avenue cost less than the ones fronting it, and walking two blocks is faster than queuing for the closest entrance.
    When to go
Fifth Avenue is a different place before and after about 9pm: dinner-with-families early, bar crowd late. If you are eating with kids, book early and you will barely notice the nightlife.
    Neighborhood advice
Padres home games reshape the whole area — bars fill hours before first pitch and restaurant waits triple. Check the schedule before you pick a downtown dinner night.

    Choose a garage by destination

    Park it on Market

614 Market Street · Central Gaslamp garage

A practical choice for the middle and north end of the district. Check the current posted or reservation rate before entry, especially when downtown events overlap.

    6th & K Parkade

289 Sixth Avenue · South Gaslamp and Petco Park

Well positioned for restaurants near K Street and the ballpark edge. It is convenient enough to attract event demand, so pre-booking is the safer game-day plan.

    Street meters

    Short visits only

Meters can be efficient when your visit fits the posted time limit. Read the meter and curb signs where you park; downtown enforcement hours and event conditions are not uniform enough for a blanket rule.

When downtown demand changes the answer

    Padres games

Parking closest to Petco Park becomes event inventory. Reserve before driving, choose a garage north of the ballpark for an easier exit, or follow the dedicated Petco Park parking plan.

    Major conventions

Convention traffic affects the south and waterfront sides of the Gaslamp. A pre-booked garage or Trolley ride avoids circling around full structures and temporary traffic controls.

    Trolley instead of driving

Gaslamp Quarter and 12th & Imperial stations serve the district and ballpark area. Check the current MTS trip plan and service alerts before leaving.

    Downtown parking checks

    • • The posted meter, curb sign or garage board is the current rule and price.
    • • Padres games, conventions and festivals can change rates, availability and traffic controls.
    • • Confirm closing and re-entry rules if the car will remain after nightlife venues close.
    • • Photograph your level and space before walking into the district.

    Frequently asked

Where is the best place to park in the Gaslamp Quarter?

Park it on Market is central for much of the district, while 6th & K Parkade works well for the south Gaslamp and Petco Park edge. Choose by your final destination and check the current posted rate.

Is there street parking in the Gaslamp?

Yes, but meters and curb restrictions vary by block. Street parking is best for a short visit that fits the posted limit; use a garage for a longer dinner, show or night out.

    Should I reserve Gaslamp parking?

Reserve for Padres games, major conventions, festivals and peak weekend nights. On ordinary days you may have more flexibility, but a reservation still removes the need to circle.

Where should I park for Gaslamp and Petco Park?

The 6th & K Parkade is positioned for both, but event demand can affect rates and availability. Compare it with official Padres parking and garages farther north before booking.

Can I take the Trolley to the Gaslamp?

Yes. Gaslamp Quarter station serves the south end, and nearby downtown stations make the Trolley a strong alternative when games or conventions increase parking demand.
