The Sound is the newest real music room in the county — a purpose-built hall inside the Del Mar Fairgrounds that fills the gap between the Belly Up's 600 and the Observatory's 1,100. North County finally has a mid-size venue that doesn't require driving to North Park.

Quick answer: Doors typically 60–90 minutes before the set. Fairgrounds parking is $15–$20 and enormous, so it never sells out. The Coaster stops at Solana Beach, a 15-minute walk or short rideshare away. Rows in the middle of the floor sound best; small bags only.

You park in the Del Mar Fairgrounds lots, which are vast and easy. Follow signs from Jimmy Durante Blvd; the closest lots to the venue fill first but the walk from anywhere on the property is under 10 minutes. On race days and during the fair, add 20–30 minutes to your arrival time — the entire Jimmy Durante corridor slows to a crawl.

Transit & rideshare
The Coaster and Amtrak both stop at Solana Beach station, roughly a mile north — a pleasant 15-minute walk down the 101 or a $10 rideshare. The Coaster's last southbound train is early on weeknights, so check the schedule before assuming you can train home from a late show. Breeze bus route 101 runs along the coast highway.
Center of the floor about a third of the way back — the room was designed around that position and it shows.
The elevated rear platform if you're short. It's a small riser but it solves the flat-floor problem for standing shows.
Reserved balcony-level seats when a show is seated — clean sightlines and no one standing in front of you.
Avoid the far side walls near the bars; the reflections off the hard surfaces muddy the mix.
Bag policy
Small bags and purses under roughly 12"x12" only. No backpacks, no outside food or drink, no professional cameras. Fairgrounds security screens at the gate as well as at the venue door, so budget a few extra minutes on a sold-out night.
