June Gloom mornings, big summer arrivals mid-month
June is deceptive. Weather.com shows 72°F highs — reality is often 65°F and foggy until 1 PM until the fog lifts in the last two weeks. Locals call it 'June Gloom.' After June 20, San Diego turns into its summer self and stays that way through October.

Pricing notes
First 15 days ~25% cheaper than second 15. Zoo, Legoland, SeaWorld all raise ticket prices June 20-ish for summer.
What to avoid
Booking a beach-only first-week-of-June trip. Assuming July weather in early June.
Late June, yes — full summer weather and long days. Early June, only if you know about June Gloom (marine layer through mid-morning). Pricing jumps around June 15 as schools let out, so mid-to-late-June trips cost meaningfully more than early-June ones.
Coastal marine layer that keeps mornings foggy and 65°F until 11 AM–1 PM, when the fog burns off to reveal a sunny 72°F afternoon. Peak in early to mid-June, gradually retreating through the month. Inland areas (5+ miles from coast) clear earlier.
Yes — water hits 65–68°F, cold-plunge-feeling for the first minute but very swimmable afterward. Most families skip wetsuits by mid-June. Boogie boarding and surf lessons don't require a wetsuit for adults comfortable in cool water.
Most San Diego public schools finish mid-June (SDUSD's last day is typically around June 12-15). Hotel rates and attraction crowds spike immediately after — the second half of June feels distinctly more crowded than the first.
