Wildflower start, warmer sun, still off-season

The city wakes up. Wildflower reports start coming out of Anza-Borrego, patios reopen for lunch, and the light shifts from winter-gray to spring-clear. Best month if you want good weather without the spring-break-onward crowds.

2-hour drive east — Feb–March is bloom season. Check DesertUSA's bloom report before you go.
#2 Whale watching (still peak)
Gray whales migrating back north with calves. February trips see mother-calf pairs closer to shore.
#3 Botanical Building at Balboa Park

58°F ocean but 65°F air. Beach is empty and the Del silhouette at sunset is a February classic.

Farmers market runs 8 AM–2 PM. Best fresh-produce/pastry Saturday morning in the city year-round.
