The hardest beach parking in San Diego, and the four moves that still work.

Mission Beach parking is free but genuinely scarce. The Belmont Park lot at 3146 Mission Boulevard is free with a 4-hour limit and is gone by about 10 am on summer weekends. The larger free lots are at the south end near the jetty and along Mission Bay Drive on the bay side, from which it is a 5–10 minute walk across to the ocean. Free street parking on Mission Boulevard and the numbered courts turns over slowly and requires patience. Best strategy on a hot Saturday: park on the Mission Bay side near Bonita Cove or Ventura Cove, walk over, and skip the ocean-side scrum entirely. Before 9 am and after 4 pm, everything is easy.

3146 Mission Blvd · Free · 4-hour limit, enforced
The most convenient lot on the peninsula, wrapping the amusement park and the Wave House. The 4-hour limit is enforced by patrol, which is why it turns over more than anything else nearby.
Local tip: Four hours is enough for the roller coaster, lunch and a swim — plan around it rather than fighting it.
Near the jetty, end of Mission Blvd · Free · large
The biggest free ocean-side lot, serving the jetty, the volleyball courts and the quieter south end of the boardwalk. Worth driving to the very end for.
Bay side, off Mission Blvd / W Mission Bay Dr · Free · big, and the reliable answer
Several large free lots on the calm bay side. From most of them the ocean is a 5–10 minute walk straight across the peninsula, and they still have space when the ocean side has been full for two hours.
Around Belmont Park and Mission Blvd · $15–30 for the day
A handful of commercial lots take cash or card for all-day parking. Overpriced on a Tuesday, a bargain at noon on the Fourth of July.

Free spots run the length of the boulevard but turn over slowly because beachgoers and residents both use them. Northbound in the morning is marginally better than southbound.

The narrow walk streets between Mission Boulevard and the boardwalk have a small number of legal spaces. Do not block a driveway or an alley — Mission Beach is one of the most actively towed neighborhoods in the city.

Alley spaces behind the beach houses are private and are towed quickly. The $300 tow fee is not worth the 90 seconds saved.

The free lot at 3146 Mission Boulevard wraps the park itself, with a 4-hour limit. When it is full — usually by 10 am on summer weekends — the South Mission lot and the Mission Bay side lots are the next best options.
The ocean-side lots and streets are effectively full by 10 am on warm weekends. The bay-side lots hold out until about 11:30 am. Before 9 am or after 4 pm, parking is straightforward.
No. City beach lots close overnight, typically between 2 and 4 am, and vehicles left in them are ticketed. Residential street parking has its own restrictions and sweeping schedules.
Mission Beach has more free lot capacity thanks to the Mission Bay side, but the ocean-side streets are tighter. Pacific Beach has more street parking spread over a larger grid, so it is often easier mid-day if you accept a longer walk.
