A San Diego anniversary comes down to three bookings: the dinner, the view, and — if you're staying over — the room. Ocean-view dinner in La Jolla or Coronado needs two to four weeks' notice for a sunset table; the city's tasting-menu rooms need four to eight. A sunset sail on the bay is the highest-impact non-dinner move and books a week out, less in winter. For an overnight, the Hotel del Coronado and the La Jolla cliffside resorts are the classic choices, and rates roughly double between April and September. Book the sunset table before anything else — it's the hardest slot in the city.

La Jolla / Coronado · 2–4 weeks ahead · request the window
There are only so many window tables facing west, and every anniversary in the county wants one. Book two to four weeks out, call to request the view explicitly rather than leaving it in the notes field, and target a reservation 45 minutes before sundown so you're seated as the light goes.
Del Mar / downtown · 4–8 weeks ahead · $500+ for two
The city's fine-dining tier books a month or two ahead for weekend seatings and requires a card on file. Plan three hours minimum. This is the anniversary choice when the meal itself is the occasion rather than the setting.
Citywide · 1–3 weeks ahead

Downtown / Shelter Island · Book a week ahead · $120–$200
Two hours on the bay with the skyline behind you and the sun going down over Point Loma. The highest impact per dollar of any anniversary experience here, and small charters are more romantic than the big dinner-cruise boats.
Del Mar / Rancho Santa Fe · 2 weeks ahead · May–Oct · $400–$600
Sunrise or sunset flights over the coastal valleys, weather permitting. Expensive and weather-cancellable, so keep a backup plan. Peak season is late spring through fall.
Sunset Cliffs / Coronado · No booking · $40–$80
The underrated option. A market spread, a blanket, and a west-facing bluff 30 minutes before sundown costs a fraction of a dinner and, for a lot of couples, beats it. Bring layers — it gets cold fast on the water.
La Jolla / Coronado · 2–3 weeks ahead
Resort spas take non-guest bookings on weekdays with more availability and lower rates than weekends. Pair a mid-afternoon treatment with an 8pm table for a full-day version.

Coronado · Book 4–8 weeks ahead in summer
The landmark choice: beachfront, historic, and the single most photographed anniversary backdrop in the county. Summer rates are steep and the property is busy; September through November gives you the same hotel at meaningfully lower rates with better weather.
La Jolla · 3–6 weeks ahead
Ocean-view rooms above the cove, walking distance to dinner and the coastal path. Ask specifically for an ocean-view room category — the difference in the experience is worth more than a room upgrade elsewhere.
Downtown / Little Italy · 1–2 weeks ahead
If the dinner is the point, staying downtown removes the drive and the parking. Cheaper than the coastal resorts and walkable to most of the city's best rooms.
San Diego lodging peaks June through August and again around major conventions. September through November is the value window — warm ocean, clear skies, and rates 30–40% below summer. January and February are cheapest of all if you accept cooler evenings.
