Rules locals live by in Pacific Beach

Do not drive Garnet on a Friday or Saturday night — park 4 blocks north on Reed or Diamond and walk. Traffic is brutal.

Free parking exists at Tourmaline, Law Street, and every residential block 2 blocks off the beach. Never pay a lot.

Kono's line is 30 min minimum on weekends. Order a breakfast burrito, walk it to the sand at the pier.

Is Pacific Beach safe?
Yes during the day. Garnet on weekend nights gets loud and drunk (mostly harmless), so if you want quiet dinner, sit off Garnet. The residential grid is very safe.
How do I get to Pacific Beach without a car?
The MTS Route 8/9 bus runs from Old Town Transit Center to PB. Uber from downtown is $18–25. Once in PB, walk or rent a bike — you don't need a car inside the neighborhood.
Where should I park in Pacific Beach?
Free lots at Tourmaline Surf Park and Law Street Beach. Free unlimited on any residential street 2 blocks off Garnet or the boardwalk. Avoid paid lots.
