The world's largest collection of historic ships. Board the Star of India (1863, oldest active sailing ship in the world), a Soviet-era submarine, a Cold War US submarine, an HMS Surprise replica, and the Californian tall ship. Self-guided; plan 2–3 hours.

Anthropology and cultural history housed inside the iconic California Building (the 200-foot bell tower you see in every Balboa Park photo). Renamed 'Museum of Us' in 2020 to reflect an updated, decolonized curatorial approach. Climb the California Tower for the best view in the park.
