Score 90/100 · Order: Trust Me-style omakase or nigiri · $60–120
Wrench & Rodent is the anti-institution sushi bar. The dining room is dark, loud, and decorated with a punk-rock sensibility, and the menu reads like a challenge to sushi orthodoxy. But the fish is excellent, much of it sourced locally, and the chefs are skilled enough to pull off creative combinations without losing balance. The Trust Me-style tasting is the best way to order, and it often includes surprises like local black cod or cured sardine. The rice is solid, the sake list is interesting, and the overall experience is fun. It is worth the drive north if you already love sushi and want something different.
