Children ages 3–17 use a separate $78 Wildlife Explorer membership. Adult and child passes cannot be replaced with a fictional flat-price family membership. Premium Protector tiers include a guest pass; resident tiers do not offer the same included guest benefits.

Access and blockout days
Limited tiers exclude certain weekends and holidays. Premium levels remove those admission blockouts; member early hours and shopping discounts vary by level.
Guest visits
Wildlife Protector tiers include one complimentary 1-day guest pass. Higher donor tiers can include more, but those are not the basic family ticket alternative.
One vacation versus returning
The 2-Visit Pass covers two visits by the same person within a year, at one park twice or each park once. If you won't return, compare that with promotions before choosing annual membership.
Visiting several San Diego attractions?
A Zoo membership is not the same as a vacation attractions pass. If your itinerary also includes SeaWorld or LEGOLAND, compare the attractions actually included in a CityPASS bundle against separate tickets; a CityPASS does not provide annual Zoo entry.

It depends. The adult 2-Visit Pass costs $130. A $144 San Diego Resident Premium membership can cost more than two visits before parking, but saves money versus three admission visits.
