Sleep near the food you care most about, then plan the rest by car or trolley.

Stay in Little Italy or downtown for the best food weekend without a car: you can walk to dozens of restaurants and the trolley and rideshare reach Barrio Logan and Old Town quickly. Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa is the exception. It is a drive or rideshare from downtown, so if Asian food is your main goal, a Mission Valley hotel with simpler parking is a practical base. Plan one neighborhood per meal, not three, and leave room for lines at the most popular spots.
