San Diego's club scene is concentrated in the Gaslamp Quarter, within about six walkable blocks around Fifth Avenue, plus a handful of rooftop and hotel clubs downtown and in Pacific Beach. Cover typically runs $20 to $40 for men and free to $20 for women on weekends, with guest lists cutting or waiving cover before about 10:30pm. Dress code is enforced: no shorts, athletic wear, flip-flops or hats at most downtown doors. Bottle service starts around $500 to $800 for a table on a Saturday and climbs sharply for headliner nights. If you want dancing without the line and the cover, Pacific Beach and North Park bars run DJ nights with no door charge at all.

Gaslamp
Get on a guest list through the venue's site or a promoter, arrive before 10:30pm and you'll usually skip the cover and most of the line. After 11pm on Saturday every door is a wait.
Local tip: Groups of all men pay the most and wait the longest — mixed groups move faster at every downtown door.
Downtown
Several downtown hotels run rooftop pool-deck clubs that start as sunset lounges and turn into dance floors. Sunday day parties are a real scene here in summer.
Tables carry a minimum spend, not a flat price — usually $500 to $800 on a normal Saturday and considerably more for a touring DJ. It's worth it only for a group of six or more who were going to spend it anyway.
Cheaper, closer to home, no dress code.
Pacific Beach
Garnet Avenue bars run DJs and dance floors most weekend nights with little or no cover and a much more casual dress code. Younger crowd, cheaper drinks.
North Park
Bars along 30th Street run themed DJ nights — disco, cumbia, 90s hip-hop — that are free to enter and end up being better dancing than a $30 cover downtown.
Hillcrest
San Diego's LGBTQ+ nightlife hub, with dance floors that run late and a mixed, welcoming crowd. Weeknights here are busier than most neighborhoods' weekends.
