Appointment inventory is per office. Clairemont, Kearny Mesa and Hillcrest fill fastest because they serve the densest population. El Cajon, Poway, San Marcos, Chula Vista and Oceanside frequently show slots weeks earlier for the same task, and the drive is shorter than the wait.
Cancellations release constantly. Checking the booking page in the early morning and again in the evening for a few days usually beats accepting the first available date months out.
Self-service kiosks in many supermarkets handle registration renewals and print stickers on the spot, plus vehicle record requests. No appointment, no line, and they take card payment.
AAA offices in San Diego handle many registration and title transactions for members, which removes the DMV visit entirely for tasks like renewals, replacement stickers and some title work.
