San Diego is the largest military city in the country — roughly one in five residents has a military tie — and that shows up as real discounts almost everywhere, from theme parks to hotels to the ferry.

Active-duty military, dependents and veterans get discounts at nearly every major San Diego attraction: the Zoo, SeaWorld, LEGOLAND, the USS Midway and Balboa Park museums all offer military pricing, and Blue Star Museums admits active duty free from Armed Forces Day to Labor Day. Bring a CAC, VHIC or Veteran ID; some parks require verification through ID.me or the base ITT office.

The VA San Diego Healthcare System is centered at the La Jolla medical center with clinics in Chula Vista, Oceanside, Escondido, Mission Valley and Kearny Mesa. The County Office of Military and Veterans Affairs handles claims assistance, and Courage to Call is a free 24/7 peer support line for service members, veterans and families.

It depends on the command — Chula Vista and Eastlake for 32nd Street, Coronado and Imperial Beach for North Island, Point Loma and Liberty Station for MCRD, Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch for Miramar, and Oceanside or Vista for Camp Pendleton.
Many attractions extend discounts to veterans with a VHIC or Veteran ID card, though a few programs like Waves of Honor are active-duty only.
