Father's Day is far easier to plan than Mother's Day in San Diego — restaurants are busy but not booked solid, and most of the good options are activities rather than reservations. The three that do sell out are half-day sportfishing charters out of Point Loma, Padres home games if they're in town that weekend, and tee times at the coastal municipal courses, all of which should be locked in two to four weeks ahead. Everything else is same-week: a Miramar or North Park brewery crawl, a harbor cruise, the USS Midway, a Cabrillo National Monument morning, or a barbecue at a bay park where you can reserve a shelter. June Gloom means grey coastal mornings clearing mid-afternoon, so schedule beach and boat plans for after noon and inland plans anytime. For food, steakhouses, barbecue joints and brewery kitchens are the natural fit, and most take same-week reservations.

The most San Diego version of the day. Half-day boats leave morning and afternoon from the Point Loma landings; rod rental and a one-day California license are extra and can be bought at the landing.
Local tip: Book the afternoon half-day if seasickness is a concern — the morning trip runs into choppier water more often.
If the team is home, this is the easy answer. Park Pass tickets get you in cheap and the Gallagher Square lawn works well with kids who won't sit through nine innings.
Torrey Pines is the trophy round and needs planning; Balboa Park, Coronado and Mission Bay municipal courses are cheaper, closer and bookable a week or two out.
Miramar for the density of big names, North Park for walkability, Carlsbad and Vista for North County. Pick one district and walk or rideshare it.
Three to four hours on a real aircraft carrier, and the audio tour is genuinely good. Buy timed tickets online and go at opening — the flight deck bakes by afternoon.
Views over the whole bay, the old lighthouse, and tide pools on the ocean side. Cheap, uncrowded before 10am, and a short drive from the Point Loma fish landings.
Weekend morning meets happen across the county and Father's Day weekend usually brings bigger turnouts. Free, casual, and over by 10am.

San Diego's barbecue scene has gotten legitimately good. Most of the best places sell out of brisket by mid-afternoon, so go early rather than reserving.

Beer plus a real menu plus room for a group without a reservation. The most low-friction option on the list.

Bay views, boats going by, and enough space for a multigenerational table. Book a week out and ask for outdoor seating.
Point Loma · $$
Fish tacos and ceviche near the sportfishing landings — the natural lunch stop after a morning charter.
