Mission Beach is a two-mile sandbar with a boardwalk down one side and Mission Bay on the other. The food is beach food — burgers, tacos, and beer with sand on the floor — and that's exactly the point.

Quick answer: On the boardwalk: The Mission for breakfast and Cannonball at Belmont Park for a rooftop with an ocean view. For a real dinner, Saska's has been there since 1951. Everything else worth eating is a short walk or drive north into Pacific Beach.
Getting there: Summer parking in Mission Beach is genuinely difficult — arrive before 9am, use the Belmont Park lot, or bike in on the boardwalk. Most places here are a walk from the sand.

The Mission for breakfast, Cannonball at Belmont Park for a rooftop ocean view, Saska's for a real dinner, and Luigi's for cheap slices. For a wider range, Pacific Beach immediately north has far more restaurants within a short walk or drive.
Cannonball's rooftop at Belmont Park has the best full ocean view over the boardwalk, and Draft next door has a large rooftop as well. Most other Mission Beach restaurants sit a half block off the sand without a water view.
In summer it's the hardest beach parking in San Diego. Arrive before 9am, use the Belmont Park lot, or park in Pacific Beach and bike down the boardwalk. Weekday mornings and the off-season are far easier.
