Point Loma Seafoods is a market, a counter, and a deck overlooking the harbor. The smoked fish and the fried sandwiches are the reason to come, and the setting on the sportfishing docks does half the work.

Local tip: Order at the counter, then grab an upstairs deck table before the lunch rush at noon.

Mitch's is a picnic-table operation on the Shelter Island docks, and the whole appeal is eating very fresh fish outdoors next to the boats. The tacos are the safe order; the steamed clams are the better one.

Local tip: Parking is tight at lunch — the marina lot fills by noon on weekends.
